Getting your data in

Two routes in: a single file from your iPhone, or the companion app on Android. Pick the one that matches your phone.

Or let the phone do it
The companion app syncs in the background, so you never export anything again.

Export one file

1
Open Health on the iPhone
The white app with the pink heart. It has to be the phone: an Apple Watch has no export of its own, and everything it records is already sitting in here.
2
Tap your photo, top right
It is in the corner of the Summary tab, next to today's date. If you have never set a photo it shows your initials instead.
3
Scroll right down and tap Export All Health Data
It is the last line on that screen, below your devices, your details and every privacy setting Apple has.
4
Send export.zip somewhere you can reach it
A share sheet opens as soon as the file is ready. AirDrop to a Mac is much the easiest route — it lands in Downloads in seconds. Saving to Files or iCloud Drive works too.
5
Upload the zip exactly as it is
Do not unzip it and do not pick files out of it. Drop export.zip on the upload screen and OwnVitals reads what it needs from inside.
It can take a few minutes. Years of readings make a large zip; the Health app keeps working while it builds.

Connect the companion

1
Check that Health Connect is on the phone
Android 14 and later have it built in, under Settings → Health Connect. On Android 13 and earlier it is a separate free app from the Play Store.
2
Let your apps write into it
Open Health Connect → App permissions. Samsung Health, Fitbit, Google Fit and the rest each have to be given write access once.
3
Pair the OwnVitals companion app
The connect screen gives you a pairing code. Type it into the app and the two are joined.
4
Choose what it may read
Sleep, steps, heart rate — as much or as little as you like. You can widen it or narrow it later without pairing again.
5
That is it — leave it running
The app syncs in the background from here. New readings appear in the portal on their own, and you never export a file.
Health Connect is the hub every other app writes into. If it is empty, OwnVitals falls back to the phone's own step counter — see Connections once you are in.
A watch or a ring? Garmin, Whoop, Oura and the rest all write into Apple Health or Health Connect. Set that up once in their own app and their readings arrive by the same two routes.
